August Randomness

Here are a few random events from August.

Rob and Landon went on the Father and Sons campout.  Still not sure why Trevor wasn't invited...

The girls participated in the Mini Hi-Lo's dance camp and performed at the Logan High football game...

A bunny decided to make a stop in our yard for a morning snack.  Trevor was the only one home since the kids had already gone to school.  He was pretty excited to see the bunny...

This boy can sleep anywhere...

A trip to the cabin and Mirror Lake after Rob's triathlon...

2010 TriUtah Jordanelle Triathlon

Rob did the Jordanelle Sprint Triathlon on August 21st.  It was his first time doing an open water swim in a wetsuit.

Before the race (pre-wetsuit shot)...

Ready for the swim to begin...

The yellow caps begin the swim...

Coming up the ramp after the swim...

A perfect picture of the guy ahead of Rob on the bike portion!  Oops!  I took it too soon not knowing how fast my camera would actually take the picture.  We really need a better camera if we are going to keep taking action shots.  You can see him on the far right, just inside the frame...

Heading to the finish line...

Race times:
Swim (750 meters): 21:14
T1: 3:35
Bike (13.4 miles): 53:19
T2: 1:58
Run (5k): 36:23
Final time: 1:56:32

The course was a lot different than last year's Cache Valley Sprint Triathlon (which is a pool swim and a pretty flat bike and run course) so he didn't know what to expect.  I say he did pretty well considering the cold water taking his breath away and having to resort to backstroke and the inclines he had to conquer on the bike and run.  Good job, babe!

Gotta get a picture of the cheerleaders (hey it was hard work keeping that boy entertained for 4 1/2 hours in the sun with no stroller!)...
Trevor and I came to watch and cheer him on...for like the 10 seconds total you see him during the race :o). The other kids stayed at the cabin with aunts and uncles and cousins and then went to Mirror Lake (we joined them afterwards). Rob had to be there by 7:30 a.m. but the race didn't start until 9:30 a.m. so it made for a very long morning with just a few meltdowns :o)

First Day Of School!

Wasn't it just yesterday that I was posting about the LAST day of school??  Summer flew by but the kids were definitely ready to head back to school.  I wasn't so sure at first but it is nice to be back on a "schedule."

Ashlee is now in 4th grade and Brynlee is in 2nd grade.  They started school on August 18th!  Way too early but I guess it's so that we can get out before Memorial Day this year.  In my opinion, I would rather have them start after Labor Day and go to school through June since it's still so wet and cold in June here.

Landon is in KINDERGARTEN!!  He didn't start until August 24th and is so excited to be going to school where his sisters go.

Trip to SLC

A week before school started, the girls got to go on a little day trip to Salt Lake City.  They drove down with Grandma Barton and met Aunt Cheryl and cousins Jacob and Caleb at the Beehive House.  They took a tour of the Beehive House and then ate lunch at the Lion House.  After lunch they went to the Church History Museum.  Thanks, Cheryl and Grandma, for taking the girls for the day.  They had a blast!  I sent Ashlee with a camera to document the outing.  Here are a few pictures that were taken.  You can see all of the pictures here.

Summer 2010: Bear Lake

I really like living so close to Bear Lake.  It is one of my favorite places to go hang out with friends.  We went up with friends a few times and then with the Barton side of the family.  Here's what we did for our last "Hurrah" before school started.

My friend, Amy, invited me and the kids to come up with her and her kids to stay for a few days at her timeshare condo.  The kids always have so much fun playing in the sand and lake.  It was nice to be able to stay a few days and not feel like we had to rush back home.  Thanks for the good times, Amy and girls!
Morgan, Brynlee, Ashlee, Kaitlyn and Landon

Little buddies, Haven and Trevor

Sign this boy up for Bay Watch!

Girls doing perler beads back at the condo.  Brynlee's eyes were closed in the first picture so this is what you get!  Silly girl!
Kaitlyn and Landon

We told Landon he couldn't have a brownie until he ate his carrots.  He didn't want them since we didn't have ranch.  Amy found some ketchup packets in her car.  Hey, he ate them...and got his brownie!

We got home from that trip to Bear Lake on Friday around 11:00 in the morning.  Then Rob's parents, siblings and their families came to our house for dinner that evening, and the next morning we headed to Bear Lake again!  Fun times!

All the Barton cousins
Back row: Brynlee holding a not so happy Trevor, Caleb, Ashlee, and Jacob
Sitting: Landon, Josh, Zach, Neil, Kyle, Sarah, and Eddie

All the cousins working together to dig the "Kiddie Pool"

This picture shows the reason Landon is now sportin' a nice tan line about 2 inches wide above his waistline.  Poor thing got fried right there!

Ah, now this is the life!  I was so tired since I ran 12 miles earlier that morning training for a half marathon.  It was so nice to take a little nap!
After Bear Lake we gathered at Grandpa and Grandma's for dinner and the annual photo...

2010 Kovacs Family Reunion: All 36 of Us

Family picture time! There are now 36 of us...16 adults and 20 grandkids! Here we are on the 4th of July. Jake (Amy's husband) wasn't able to be at the reunion so he's not in the picture...

The 7 grandkids born within 15 months of each other...

The grandkids plus grandparents picture didn't work out so well. Here are a couple of outtakes. First with Trevor escaping off to the right...
And then Sadie thought that looked like fun as well. I love the grin on her face...I'm FRREEE!!

Here are all the grandkids in order according to age...

(If you enlarge the picture and are wondering why Ashlee looks slightly different, she woke up Saturday morning with a swollen face from an abscessed tooth...one that had already abscessed back in February and they were waiting for the root to fully form to do a root canal...but no worries, once we got home, she saw the endodontist and the root canal is done! I think she looks like someone from Whoville!)

2010 Kovacs Family Reunion: The Treasure Hunt

It has become a tradition that my dad saves his loose change for the 2 years in between family reunions and then buries his treasure in the sandbox. The kids look forward to this the whole reunion!

And they're off. The little kids get a head start...

Our kids averaged about $12 each so multiply that times 20 grandkids and that's a whole lotta change!
