Myringotomy #5, I'm a Pro

Here's my cute little boy, sporting a very fashionable Looney Tunes hospital gown. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of witnessing my FIFTH myringotomy with tubes....a fancy, shmancy name for making an incision in the eardrum and putting a tube in. The tube basically looks like a teeny, tiny bobbin for all you seamstresses out there. After one set for Ashlee and three sets for Brynlee, I consider myself a pro. All the "this is what's going to happen...blah, blah, blah," I shake my head and say, yeah I've done this before.

So when Trevor had his first ear infection at his 6 month checkup, let's just say I was less than happy. He has now been on 5 rounds of antibiotics and I finally gave in to the fact that tubes were his destiny. I was a little disappointed that they didn't give me a dvd of the surgery...I wanted to post it for all you who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing it for yourself! During the surgery, I get to watch it on tv in another room and the doctor explains it all...not that I needed an explanation. I could have narrated it myself. The only other surgery I have on dvd (the others are on VHS) is Brynlee's last one, but I get a bit nauseated watching that one so I won't gross ya'll out!

He is recovering just fine...doesn't seem to be affected by it at all, except that he really dislikes the ear drops!

Aw, poor Trevor. I've never had the pleasure, so I won't lie and say I know what you're going through. But I hope this fixes all of his life's woes!

And seriously - 3 sets for Brynlee? WOW.

Kirsten left out that she knows enough about it that she was critiquing the doctor's form.

Think of the scene in Finding Nemo when the fish and bird are discussing the root canal the dentist is performing...

Ooh, he's using a Hedstrom file.
That's not a Hedstrom file, it's a K-FLEX.
It has a tear-dropped cross section. Clearly, a Hedstrom.

Poor guy! I hate to see such little kids in hospital gowns. I hope these work for him and that he doesn't have to get any more!

Rob, as much as Kirsten knows about this surgery, I totally know what they are talking about on Finding Nemo as I have assisted on many-a-root canals :)

He looks like he has no idea what he's in for, poor guy! So did Landon not ever have tubes? I thought they all had. Anyway, I hope he's feeling well and this takes care of everything!

No, Landon was THIS close to getting tubes when he was 20 months old and then the last one finally cleared up with a 3rd round of antibiotics and he hasn't had one since.

WoW! I can't believe you have had to do this 5 times. I have never had to deal with the ear infection thing much but I have heard it is horrible. So sorry.
