Saturday's Project: Shelves

Yesterday was spent building shelves in the garage. We have this nice 10 ft. by 11 ft. extension in the garage (not a 3 car garage but almost as nice). For the last two years, it has been filling with junk, most of it was old doors, sinks, light fixtures, etc. from remodeling. Tool boxes, yard work tools, extension cords, bags of charcoal (it was really cheap at some store last summer and I think we bought 8 bags...ridiculous!), outdoor toys/games, have been lining the walls beside the truck and minivan making it nearly impossible to walk freely around the garage. Since we were at a stand still with the downstairs bathroom remodel, I convinced Rob it was time to build shelves so I could organize and clean up the garage before winter hits...yes, I just mentioned winter! Here's the process... Building the frames of the shelves. Once Landon heard the circular saw and hammer, he came running to check things out. Of course, he convinced daddy he needed to help!
The shelf frames lined up and ready to be hung
Landon testing out the strength of the first shelf
Almost done...it's getting dark outside and I'm really praying this project gets done in one day!
The finished product...how long do you think it will take me to fill them :)
I think the shelves are good and sturdy...well done, honey!

At some point during the day, Landon decided he wanted to build a robot. He drew a picture and then went to work.

Oh, how I covet storage space like that. And little mini-rob kills me.. he decides to sketch and build a robot.

Love the shelves-and I'm sure you do, too! Landon's robot sounds like something Luke would do. Today he wanted to make a plank up to my bed. He was trying to use our little rug in our room and it wouldn't stay flat and tight so he could walk on it. He decided to get the scotch tape and asked me to hold it tight so he could tape one end to the floor and the other to the bed. I finally convinced him it wouldn't work!
